Form: What is it like?
Function: How does it work?
Causation: Why is it like it is?
Change: How is it changing?
Connection: How is it connected to other things?
Perspective: What are the points of view?
Responsibility: What is our responsibility?
Reflection: How do we know?
It allows students to make real-world authentic connections within contexts, supporting thinking and learning within an inquiry setting, encompassing the ‘whole child"
The fact that the essential elements serve to nurture the learner profiles further supports thinking and learning about the world and provides a platform for supporting the internationally-minded ideal

• Research skills
Students acquire knowledge and skills in authentic, meaningful contexts that transcend the boundaries of traditional subjects
The transdisciplinary themes within the element of Knowledge are:
The IB system recognizes ‘attitudes’ as a vital part of self-development. It suggests that knowledge and concepts cannot alone make an international minded person. It is indeed important to generate good values within individuals so that they can benefit the people and the environment around them
An international mind is not just intelligent and knowledgeable but it also possesses certain attitudes that differentiate it from others
People who practice these attitudes perform better in life because they are maintaining a balance between their personal learning and the world around them
Being tolerant, cooperative and empathetic in difficult situations allows and individual to respectfully interact with others. These attitudes can avoid problems or individuals and ensure a peaceful life
PYP schools give an opportunity to students to take actions and then reflect on them
Successful inquiry will lead to responsible action, initiated by the student
Taking action allows students to extend their learning beyond the classroom and see how concepts fit into a bigger picture/the real world
Action should be seen as a voluntary demonstration of a student’s empowerment
Taking action allows students to grow socially, work collaboratively, as well as develop problem-solving skills and allow learners to think critically
The element of action is what will make our future scientists, activists, researchers, and leaders. So I believe the essential element of action is extremely important in making a well-balanced, coherent curriculum
