The impact of the development of the SARS-CoV-2 Coronavirus pandemic causing Covid-19 disease on educational processes in schools and colleges is very large.

Due to the development of the SARS-CoV-2 Coronavirus pandemic, Stationary didactic classes in schools and colleges have now (March-April 2020) been suspended and replaced by e-learning in many countries.

No Access to on-campus student facilities. e.g library

Digital Divide (student and teacher on various factors)

  • suddenly, Education is getting online completely .

the whole education system is now reliable on online learning

  • Instructor are finding an idea about how to complete the academic calendar of the students
  • Teachers are also learning so they can cope up with Digital Native students

E-Learning

e Learning is the modern form of learning, which takes place outside of a traditional classroom environment. As the name suggests, eLearning is based on electronic technologies and devices to access the educational cirriculum.

Often, e Learning is referred to as a program or course that is delivered entirely online.

Advantages of eLearning

For

  • No need to travel
  • Saves time, cost, and efforts
  • No geographical boundaries.
  • Students can study at their own pace and at their own time depending on if it is synchronous or asynchronous mode of eLearning.
  • Students can skip the unnecessary content or the topics, which they already are familiar with.
  • Often, eLearning material or courses offered can be reused by the student for better understanding.
  • Flexibility with online material and quizzes.

Disadvantages of eLearning

Against

  • Lacks face-to-face interactions between fellow students and staff.
  • No student facilities such as labs, study rooms, libraries, and more.
  • Needs effective self-motivation.
  • Comparitively less/low discussion forums.
  • Online assessments might not be as effective as offline assessments.
  • Authenticity of students.

Other

Using resources like video recording of classes, PPT, PDF etc can be uploaded on MOODLE/ WordPress which are opensource platform.

Screencastomatic can be used to create videos by recording the slides of PPT and simultaneously recording our description as we do in offline classroom.

Evaluation can be done on MOODLE / Googleclassroom.

Practical setup can be video recorded (a bit difficult) and uploaded. teacher can use their smart phone

(Creating all these requires at least minimum 16-20 hours of input for 1 hour of class. But the resources once made can be useful henceforth.)

in Pandemic time teacher should learn ICT through Internet

There is communication gap between media facilitator and subject expert for E-Content Videos

Teacher should change the mind set about Online learning and explore the Possibilities

Technology, slowly but surely, ( due to Covid Pandemic, rapidly) is transforming education and making teaching more than just a one-to-many session by improving engagement between the teacher and the students. Smartphone screen have replaced the conventional blackboards in many closed door educational institutions in pandemic situation .

Technology is transforming education in a manner that dynamically involves students by replacing a teacher-centered model with a student-centered one. The role technology is playing in making education a motivating business is noteworthy. Teachers are able to effectively organize and present lessons enabling students to understand concepts better.
