INTRO

INTRODUCTION

  • Cleanliness has become a very prominent issue which needs to be dealt with at the earliest.
  • Waste management is very inefficient in our country and we see either some bins overflowing while others under flowing.
  • Owing to it,we intend to build a smart bin which can help the authorities to empty the dustbins on time.
  • In addition to it, we also will be analyzing certain data to help them get an idea of how the flow of filling and emptying bin goes.

Objectives

OBJECTIVES

  • Through our project, we intend to notify and alert the drivers regarding the level of bin filled.
  • They can directly go to that specific bin after they know a certain level has been filled without having to go and check every bin manually.
  • We will be using IOT + Big Data for our project.

LITERATURE REVIEW

LITERATURE REVIEW

The most current related work is done by Zavare and his Colleagues on sensor nodes connected to an Arduino board based control station, that uses a GSM module to send the sensor nodes data by SMS to the garbage collecting vehicle and to a server hosting web application by a Wi-Fi connection. The sensor nodes of the smart bins rely on the ultrasonic sensor to sense the fullness percentage according to pre-calculated bin depth. Moreover, a GPS module is used to get the bin location.

Another work on wireless sensor network is done by Singh Mahajan and Bagai. The bins in his work are equipped with an accelerometer sensor to sense the opening and closing of the bin lid, a temperature and humidity sensor to check the present organic waste, and an ultrasonic sensor to sense the fullness status of the bin.

MATERIALS REQUIRED-

1. ARDUINO UNO

2. BREADBOARD AND JUMP WIRES

3. WIFI- MODULE

4.ULTRASONIC SENSORS

5. ARDUINO IDE

METHOD

METHOD

  • In our project, we will put a sensor on top of the garbage bin which will detect the total level of garbage inside it according to the total size of the bin. When the garbage will reach the maximum level, driver via app or web interface will get notified and then the employees can take further actions to empty the bin.
  • Also, we will be processing data to help the authorities get an idea of when and which bin fills to its maximum by graphical and statistical analysis.
