Edwardian Era (1901-1910)
The book takes place in this era. King Edward was ruling the United Kingdom. The class system was very strict in those days. There was a middle class that hadn't existed before. People with money were exploiting (taking advantage) of the lower class. People in Britain were discriminated due to their wealth, heredity and their status in the community. Noble people consider the others with poor economic status as "lower class" whereas people with royal ties and wealth were accepted as the "upper class".
In this movie Jack presents the lower class and Rose presents the "upper class" in the community. They fall in love in the ship as a coincidence and because of the class system, they cannot unite and the movie ends with an unexpected ending.
