THE BEGINNING...

Emperor Qin was first Pince Zheng of the Qin family. Born in 259 B.C.E. His dynasty began when they overthrew the Zhou dynasty. Ten years later, when he was 13, Zheng became the emperor.

Zheng was quite an amibitious man. He used militrary might, spies, bribery, and alliances to conquer the remaining rival states. His empire became far larger than the kingdoms of earlier dynasties. In 221 B.C.E., he gained control of China. He decided to take a new name, Qinshihuangdi, or First Emperor of Qin.

Greatly influenced by Legalism. Legalists believed in strict laws, harsh punishments, and a strong central authority. The emperor adopted these ideas, to avoid threats from powerful lords, he replaced the old system feudalism with a government he controled personally. He divided his vast territory into 36 districts. three officials were appointed to govern each district. One for the army, one for the laws and agriculture, one to advise the king about whats going on.

Emperor Qin wanted to unify China. He then created many laws aiming at the officials. All of the officials had to do their tasks or be punished. For him, everything had to be exact, like measurements, and how coins were the only possible way of buying something.

The great wall is very good example. The great wall was 10 years of hardwork and slavery. 300,000 men were used to build this gigantic wall. Soldiers, peasents, muiscians, teachers, writers, and artists set foot to the north to build this great wall. Tens of thousands of men died with their bodies buried in the wall. This wall was what protect china for so long.

He died 210 B.C.E after a search of the elxir of immortality. Despite the many achivements he might have had over China he was unhappy. He didn't want to die. So he summond hundereds of magicians to his court for the key to immortality, some of them said to seek a magic potion. He set out far to find this magic potion. Nobody knows why he died, but they think he was killed with poision. When we discovered his tomb in 1974 C.E., we found lots of jeweles and, the Clay army.
