Roles of the President

Role I: Chief Executive

  • The President has to appoint somewhere around 4,000 executive branch officials.
  • The Presdient must make sure that the laws be faithfully executed.
  • He must make the bigger choices while he leaves the samller choices to the other officials.

When Obama appointed John Brennan as the head of the CIA

Role 2: Commander in Chief

  • The President can send troops to a foregin country.
  • The President is the Commander of the Army and the Navy.
  • The President is expected to set goals for the military and aprove military tactics.

Real world examples:

When President Regan sent troops to invade Grenda

The President must set plns that guide our nations relationship with other countries.

Real World Example:

Role 3: The Chief Diplomat

The President can make treaties with other countries, but the Senate can reject and treaty.

When Obama signed a new law for credit card legislation.

The President can make executive agreements with other countries that do not need Senate approval.

The President can veto bills so they can change a law.

Real Life Examples:

The President can help set domestic policy ( a set of plans for dealing with national problems.

Franklin D. Roosevelt vetoed 635 bills in total.

The President can recommend to Congress idea's that the President has about laws.

Role 4: The Legislative Leader

Real Life Examples:

When Obama was president, he chose two supreme court members.

The President can choose Supreme Court justices and other fedral judges.

The President can limit power to the judicial branch.

The President can 'do away' with punishments given to the judicail branch.

The President can give speeches and attend fundraisers across the country.

The President can support pary goals or candinates.

Role 7: The Chief of State

The Presdient can express the values and goals of the American people.

The President must stand for a national unity that overshadows difference between both political parties.

Obama awarded a lot of medals to honor vetrans.
