Introduction

Introduction

With the rise of mobile terminals, WI-FI networks became more and more popular,

Many companies are trying to adapt and become more WI-FI friendly

History

Since 1971 till today WIFI noticed a great improvement in many levels

hardware wise standards wise and also signal wise.

Current situation

Most corporations don't have an issue with Wifi networks :

  • Don't invest in them

  • Rely mostly on Lan

  • Networks are not updated

Project context

With over 6.8 billion devices WI-FI connected around the world

WI-FI networks are getting more popular as years go by.

With this in mind we were welcomed to FOCUS IT.

Taking the network form good to great

FOCUS

Host Company

Presentation

  • Focus is an IT (Information Technology) Outsourcing company

  • Founded in 2003
  • It delivers an outsourcing software and IT solutions based on advanced technical skills, IT expertise, and strong commitment to quality assurance.

FTS

  • Focus Technology Solutions
  • A section of FOCUS group specialized in system integration and IT solutions.

Services

  • Application Services
  • IT Services

Problematic

  • Corporations networks can suffer WiFi wise if they don’t take into consideration many factors

Placement

  • Low signal strength

  • Poor performance

  • Intermittent connectivity

Number of devices

  • Too many devices connected

to the same network.

  • Bandwidth divided between all

the devices.

Run out of bandwidth.

Interference

  • Many environmental facts

can affect transmission

  • The wall is the most

common obstacle that

weakens the signal

  • Frequency Interference

Losing Connection

  • Access points don't

cover the whole places

  • Employees lose connectivity

while moving in different parts

of the company

  • Problem in several fields

of applications

Security

  • Security discourages

several people for

deploying wireless networks

  • Anyone within range can

connect and use the network

for harmful purposes

Technical Aspects

Technical Aspects

  • Choosing the right place for APs
  • Frequency choose
  • Roaming
  • QoS
  • Security

APs Locations

  • Precise access point placement is key
  • Avoid coverage overlap whenever possible
  • Wireless interference planning

Frequency Choose

2.4GHz

+ WiFi network coverage

5GHz

+ Device compatibility

+ WiFi network speed

+ Co-channel interference

Roaming

  • Changing access points

without losing its network

connectivity

  • Helps wireless clients with

a weak signal to connect to the

nearest access point with

stronger signal

QoS

  • Quality of Service
  • Giving priority to certain applications or certain devices.
  • Makes network performance more predictable and bandwidth utilization more effective.

Security

  • Securing Wi-Fi connections

=

Securing personal data

  • Security features of Wi-Fi

Protected Access constantly evolve

  • Stronger protections and new security

practices

Protocols

WEP

WPA

WPA2

WPS

Implementations

Implementations

& Results

  • Access points locations
  • Addressing plan
  • Configuration
  • Security
  • Testing

Access points placement

What to take into consideration:

  • Having no dead-zones

  • Having a good signal in dense

working spaces

  • Not placing the AP in an environment that blocks the WI-FI signal

Making the

Addressing plan

  • We chose a Class A address

  • 3 VLANS :

  • VLAN 10:APs
  • VLAN 40:Employees
  • VLAN 50:Guest

The Addressing plan

Architecture of the prototype

Configuration

  • Basic configuration from console

  • Configuration from Graphical User Interface

Setting up the WLC

  • Password , username and domain configuration

  • Configuration of the contoller IP address

  • Creating SSH

  • Creating Vlans

Creating DHCP Scopes

Creating Wlans

Conclusion

Conclusion & perspective

Creating a local prototype of the future solution

Studying a new solution and its different approaches

A full professional experience hardware and software of the creation of a corporation network

The project is still at work and it s not finish yet.

Perspective

The implementation of the prototype solution

in the new FOCUS building in Lac 1

Adapting it to the new building s environment

Running more test security wise and signal wise
