The Wave

DESCRIPTION

The Wave is a geological wonder on the Coyote Buttes' slopes near the Arizona-Utah border. The sandstone was sculpted by prevailing winds forcing sand dunes across it, while water runoff deposited manganese and iron-rich compounds. Liesegang rings, named after a German physicist, are the resultant colour bands. The sandstone is strewn with swirled bands of colour in red, pink, orange, yellow, white, and green. The Wave was produced 190 million years ago when desert dunes compacted and solidified into striped sandstone. The unusual and unique changing strata were produced by slow wind and rain erosion.

The Wave began forming around 190 million years ago.

Desert dunes in the area started compacting together, and hardening into large sandstone rocks. These rocks initially would've looked like large, curvy blocks, but they were shrunk down by erosion from wind and rain. This erosion is what gave The Wave its shape.

As already mentioned earlier, this eye-catching site is located in the USA, (Arizona) which is an area on our Earth constantly being affected by the heat waves, due to the negative climate change and hazardous weather caused by none other than pollution. When the toxins from our litter reach to the o-zone layer, the O-Zone layer becomes more and more damaged. Resulting in higher heat temperatures, fires affected wildlife etc.

How do humans use the Wave

The wave is a popular tourist destination, with an average of 100,000 tourists yearly, it is used as a sight-seeing place as it is unique compared to other tourist attractions similar to the Wave.
