My favorite painter is Leonardo da Vinci
Biography of Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519), the great Italian painter, inventor, engineer and anatomist of the Renaissance. Leonardo was born in the town of Vinci, west of Florence, on April 15, 1452. He was the illegitimate son of a Florentine notary and a peasant girl; was brought up in his father's house and, as the son of an educated man, received a solid elementary education in reading, writing and counting. In 1472, Leonardo joined the artists' guild, studying the basics of drawing and other necessary disciplines. In 1476 he was still working in Verrocchio's workshop, apparently in collaboration with the master himself. By 1480, Leonardo was already receiving large orders, but in 1482 he moved to Milan.
A genius, according to wikipedia.com, is a person with great intelligence, who shows an exceptional natural capacity of intellect, especially as shown in creative and original work. Geniuses always show strong individuality and imagination, and are not only intelligent, but unique and innovative.
Leonardo gained his intimate knowledge of the world despite lacking a formal education and despite facing seemingly insurmountable odds. His work is not only creative and original, but revolutionary.

TITLE
Virgin of the Rocks (1483- 1486)
The Virgin of the Rocks (sometimes the Madonna of the Rocks) is the name used for two paintings by Leonardo da Vinci, of the same subject, and of a composition which is identical except for several significant details. The version generally considered the prime version, that is the earlier of the two, hangs in The Louvre in Paris and the other in the National Gallery, London. The paintings are both nearly 2 meters (over 6 feet) high and are painted in oils. Both were painted on wooden panel; that in the Louvre has been transferred to canvas.
