  • The Philippine government is a democracy
  • The Philippines is said to be a democratic country
  • The President is elected by a popular vote
  • Executive power is exercised by the government
  • Judicial power is vested in the courts
  • National Government- Senate; House of Representatives
  • The electoral processes in the Philippines are very bias
  • They have freedom Of Speech, thought, press, religion and gender equality
  • All eligible citizens have the right to vote
  • All adults have easily accessible, meaningful, and effective ways
  • The democracy has constitution that sets out the essential operating rules for the organization
  • A direct decision-making process that allows citizen to initiate

  • The government has three branches: Executive, Legislative, and Judicial
  • Executive branch is exercised under the leadership of the President who enforces the law
  • The Legislative branch -makes the law and composed of: a.House Of Representatives (250) b. Senate (24)
  • The Judicial branch they interprets the laws through the Supreme Court and lower courts

Executive Branch

  • President: responsible way, to help support cities and to show the world their country is well ran.
  • Vice President: A "spare tire," If something happens to the president, the vice president will come in
  • Cabinet: consists of the largest part of the executive branch of the national government
  • Regional Governor: is the chief head of their region and has control of all boards
  • Governor: The elected executive head of a state of the Philippines
  • Vice Governor: A governor's assistant or deputy

  • Mayor: The elected head of a city town or other municipality
  • Vice Mayor: To serve as " acting mayor" in the mayor's absence
  • Barangay Captain: The highest elected official in a barangay (a political subdivision

How are Laws made

The Congress for the Philippines is tasked to create laws. There are two houses:

-The Upper House (House Of Representatives)

-The Lower house (The Senate)

1. The proposed bill is signed and filed.

2. The bill will go through three readings

3.The bill is then subjected and disscusion

4.The bill will be submitted for a final vote

5. Once the bill is approved, the bill is officially a law which was signed by the President

If passed by both houses,

Legislator writes bill and presents it to the House Of Representatives

The Legislator writes bill and presents it to the Senate

Bill is sent to the President

Senate commitee studies the bill

House committee studies the bill

If President signs, bill becomes a law

House committee members vote and give the House a recommendation

Senate commitee members vote and give Senate a recommendation

Bill is sent to both houses for a vote, bill becomes passed

Signs Of Democracy

  • The Philippines has all signs of democracy

Open Elections:

  • Each voter is entitled to one vote
  • The cadidate with the most votes wins the position
  • The President and the Vice President may come from different paries
  • Every citizen 18 years old and above can vote on election day
  • A voter may vote as much as 34 names

Freedom Of Press:

  • The president of the Philippines has never gotten along with the press
  • They talk about what is happening in the Philippine government
  • Media press such as newspapers, national Philippine news, etc.

Signs Of Democracy

Freedom Of Speech:

  • Freedom of Speech is the concept to voice one's opinion publicly
  • "Speech" is not limited to public speaking

Judicial System:

  • The justice system in the Philippines is a mixed of legal system of civil, etc.
  • Those accused of crimes have the right to be informed
