2 TYPES OF LOCATION

Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt are alike and different in many ways.

Absolute

Absolute location is exact location such as coordinates, what three words, or addresses.

Absolute

Comparing Ancient Egypt and Ancient Greece

Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt were in different spots but they both touched the Mediterranean Sea. Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt were both connected to Asia, Ancient Egypt through the Middle East and Ancient Greece through Arabia which was also in the Middle East.

Compare

Contrasting Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt

Contrast

Ancient Greece's coordinates are anywhere between 34 degrees north and 41 degrees north.

Whereas Ancient Egypt is anywhere between 22 degrees north and 31 degrees north. Ancient Egypt did have addresses whereas Ancient Greece didn't. And Ancient Egypt is between 24 degrees and 34 degrees east but Ancient Greece lies between 20 degrees east and 26 degrees east.

Relative

Location

Relative location is about finding a place that is near or around that spot.

Relative

Compare

Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt are both in the North-Eastern hemisphere. And they both touch the Mediterranean sea. Both Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt used the Mediterranean Sea to travel and trade.

Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt were in different spots and other places were in different spots too. For example to the west of Ancient Greece might be Gaul and to the west of Ancient Egypt might be the Carthaginians. Also at a time they were in different continents, (Ancient Greece eventually spread into Africa after winning some battles) but Ancient Greece mostly stayed in Europe and Ancient Egypt mostly stayed in Africa.

Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt are in different places but they have similarities.

Cultural Regions

Comparing Ancient Egypt and Ancient Greece's cultures.

Ancient Egypt's and Ancient Greece's cultures were also similar because both cultures practiced the polytheistic religion (which means belief in the gods)but neither religion went to church. Ancient Egypt and Ancient Greece believed in different gods, like Horus for the Egyptians, but the Greeks might have believed in a god like Zeus.

Contrasting Ancient Egypt and Ancient Greece's culture.

Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt had different cultures and for starters the Ancient Egyptians spoke Afro-asiatic and the Greeks spoke Indo-European, also Ancient Greeks put bodies in Sarcophagi and buried them in ground, but then the Ancient Egyptians buried bodies in the desert, and they buried pharaohs in the pyramids.

Physical

Physical Regions

Comparing Ancient Egypt and Ancient Greece's physical places.

Both Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt had major rivers that ran through them. For Egypt it was the Nile and for Greece it was the Maritsa river. The Ancient Egyptians grew grain and several types of fruit and vegetables such as garlic, radishes, cabbage, cucumber, pomegranates, and grapes. The Ancient Greeks also grew grain, grapes, pomegranates, cucumbers, garlic, and figs.

Contrasting Ancient Egypt and Ancient Greece's physical places.

Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt had pretty different weather but some similarities. Ancient Egypt had hot summers and pretty warm winters in the northern part of Ancient Egypt, but down in the desert the days could be extremely hot or extremely cold. Ancient Greece also had hot summers but their winters weren't as warm as the Ancient Egyptian ones were. Also the wild animals in Ancient Greece were different than the ones you would find in Ancient Egypt. Ancient Greece had deer, wild pigs, hares, foxes, bears, and squirrels, whereas in Ancient Egypt you would find crocodiles, hippos, jackals, and snakes. Although both Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt kept pets they were very different types of pets. Greeks kept dogs, birds, ducks, tortoises, and even grasshoppers as pets! The Ancient Egyptians kept pets like dogs, cats, baboons, monkeys, fish, hippos and sometimes lions as pets! Also both Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt have desert.

Human-Environment

Interaction

Modification

Both Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt modified their environment to help them survive.

Modification

Compare

Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt both had national monuments in their civilizations. Ancient Greece built the Acropolis, and Ancient Egypt built the pyramids. Both of those were made out of limestone which they had to mine out of the ground and made a large hole which was filled in. Ancient Greeks used the Mediterranean Sea to trade and so did the Ancient Egyptians. Even though they are made from different materials (Greeks: Pine Wood, Fir Wood) and (Egyptians:Papyrus Stalks). But they both cut down the materials to make these boats and they both used the sea to trade.

Compare

Contrast

Ancient Egypt used plows and irrigation to farm, they would plow the fields, and they would dig trenches in the soil so water would come through from the Mediterranean and it would water the crops. The Ancient Greeks farmed by the simple digging, weeding, and farming. Each person had an individual crop, sometimes richer farmers would have oxen plow their fields. And instead of hand picking their crops like the Ancient Egyptians, Ancient Greeks used a tool called a sickle to harvest crops. The Greeks and the Egyptians also build monuments, the Greeks made the Parthenon which was made out of pentelic marble and

Adaptation

Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt both invented many things to help the survive.

Adaptation

Ancient Greeks and Ancient Egyptians made different types of clothing to help them stay warm, the Greeks invented the toga which they would strap over both shoulders and then they would wear it like dress and that would keep them warm during wintertime. The Ancient Egyptians invented a different type of clothing, they would wear kilts, skirts, or cloaks. The Ancient Egyptians made their house a very special way, they made a row of bricks that were thinner so that outside air could come into their house and cool them down during summer. The Ancient Greeks kept their house cool by bringing water into their house and they kept it cold in ducts so they could control the heat of their house.

Compare

Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt both built different contraptions to allow them to get water. Ancient Greece built aqueducts through the mountains and there would be spouts where the water came out so people could collect their water. Ancient Egypt build watersheds, so they trapped the water and used it until the next flood or rainfall where they would open it back up and allow the water to enter. Ancient Egypt and Ancient Greece also both believed in gods so they both built temples to honor them, the Greeks built the Temple of Athena to honor the goddess Athena, and the Egyptians built a statue that was dedicated to the god Horus. They believed that they would please the gods and the gods would help them survive.

Compare

Movement

How did people and packages and conversations move in ancient civilizations?

Movement

Transportation

What sort of vehicles were used in Ancient Civilizations.

Transportation

Compare

Both Ancient Egypt and Ancient Greece got around by wagons that were pulled by donkeys, they could carry a small amount of people or some cargo that needed to be shipped away. Both Ancient Egypt and Ancient Greece also used ships to travel, whether it was to send out more troops or if it was a trade boat going overseas.

Compare

Contrast

Ancient Greece had paved roads but Ancient Egypt did not. This changed the speed that wagons and people could get around by because they didn't have to worry about a bumpy road that would make packages fall out or have someone walking a get a rock in their shoes or underneath their toe. Ancient Egypt also had chariots which was like a basket on wheels, you would climb in through the back of it and then the horses would start moving, but you would have to hold onto the side so they didn't fall out. But Ancient Greece had carriages which was like a box on wheels and the passenger would climb in through the side and the driver would be on top of the carriage and the horses would start trotting.

Contrast

Communication

How did conversations move throughout Ancient Civilizations.

Communication

Compare

Sending letters was the main way of communication by Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt. Someone would write on papyrus paper and give it to a messenger and have the messenger give it to the person the letter was going to. Also, both Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt would use carrier pigeons to deliver messages. They would write their message and then they would tie the letter to the pigeons leg and send the pigeon away.

Compare

Contrast

Ancient Greece used scrolls as a way to let people know what might have been going on during the time, like if something happened in a war, or someone important died. But Ancient Egypt used clay tablets to do that instead of scrolls. Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt also had different ways of communicating with the gods, the Ancient Egyptians would give messages to deities which were messenger gods and goddesses and they would deliver the Egyptians messages to their gods. But Ancient Greece would communicate with their gods by sacrificing a good part of their crop or a healthy animal.

Contrast

Regions

Regions

Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt both had 3 types of regions.

Physical

Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt both had physical regions

Physical

Compare

Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt did grow some of the same crops. For instance they both grew figs and they both grew them on their side of the Mediterranean. Both civilizations also grew pomegranates. Ancient Greece grew their pomegranates in the gardens of King Alcinous, and Ancient Egypt grew their pomegranates in the fertile crescent which was known for having perfect soil to grow crops.

Compare

Contrast

One of Ancient Greece's regions was the Olive Tree region. It was located on the eastern part of Greece on the Mediterranean. Ancient Egypt did not have an Olive Tree region but they did have a Papyrus region. It was located on the Nile river delta which spilled out into the Mediterranean. When Ancient Greece took over part of Africa during their reign Ramses II had apple trees planted along the Nile River delta. Another one of Ancient Egypt's foods that grew in the Mediterranean region was lettuce. Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt grew a lot of different foods because of their climate.

Contrast

Cultural Regions

Ancient Egypt and Ancient Greece also had cultural regions.

Cultural

Compare

Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt's culture were similar, they actually both practiced the same religion, polytheism. The polytheistic religion was belief in the gods like Horus for Ancient Egypt or Poseidon for Ancient Greece. Greece and Egypt also bought from each other, the Greeks would buy slaves, papyrus paper, wheat and spices. I was unable to find ANY information as to what Ancient Egypt bought from Ancient Greece.

Compare

Contrast

It turns out almost everyone in Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt spoke the same languages. Almost everyone in Ancient Greece spoke Greek, and almost everyone in Ancient Egypt spoke Afro-Asiatic. Ancient Greece was also part of a region called the Hellenic region. The Hellenic region consisted of Greece, Macedonia, Crete, Caria, and other civilizations as well. One of the regions inside of Ancient Egypt was the Nile River Valley. The Nile River Valley stretched from the Nile River delta, all the way down to the city of Edfu, but the Nile River kept going into Nubia.

Contrast

Political Regions

Ancient Egypt and Ancient Greece also had some political regions.

Political

Contrast

Ancient Egypt;s government was run by a king or queen from a family until the family had no more sons. This type of government was called a monarchy. But Ancient Greece had a democracy which meant that a group of people were elected by the people of Greece and they would run the government. Also the Ancient Greeks had city-states, and there were four of these and they ran their own government, but Ancient Egypt had towns and cities which were ran under the government of the Egyptian civilization.

Contrast

Compare

Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt both had courts for their civilizations. The Ancient Greek courts weren't classy at all. They had no lawyers, judges, or court officials. The jury would decide if the crime the person committed was a crime or not. However Ancient Egypt took court very seriously. They had a Pharaoh as the judge and a jury. Although the civilizations had different rules they still both had courts. Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt both had laws. Some of Ancient Greece's were if you murdered someone you could end up having permanent exile or be killed and in Ancient Egypt if you killed someone you would get the death penalty. So pretty much the same treatment for killing someone in both civilizations.
