“Archie” is launched

The first internet search engine, Archie, was created by Alan Emtage and was used for indexing FTP archives.

Hewlett-Packard created the first online clickable banner ad in 1993.

Unfortunately it is almost impossible to find a copy of the first ever online clickable banner ad, but above is a similar banner from just a year later for the AT&T mobile phone network.
