Famous Composers

Paintings from the modern era:

Paintings

The paintings in this era were a mix of landscapes and people. The people in the paintings were relaxed, and the paintings have a common theme of sereneness. I noticed that the art style has changed from previous eras. Artists have a variety of new styles, experimenting with shapes and colors.

Fashion from the modern era:

Fashion

The music, art, and fashion was all very experimental. This makes me believe that this era was a time of discovery and exportation. I believe the people of this time were well off, until the great depression. This was also around the 1920s which was a thriving time for America.

Because this period has not yet ended, I am not sure if i would like to live in it. I would like to live in the later times of this period but perhaps not in its early stages.

Musician feature: Claude Debussy (1862-1918)

Claude Debussy, a French composer, is one of the most influential composers of all time. He showed an early interest for piano and proved to be gifted. He was employed at the Paris Conservatoire in 1873 and was later employed by Nadezhda von Meck, a pianist. Debussy is considered to be the founder of impressionism and he used a unique voice leading technique to convey mood and images. He was compared to artists such as Franz Liszt, Richard Wagner, and Arnold Schoenberg. He influenced many great composers such as Igor Savinsky, Alban Berg, and Anton Webern. Some of his most famous works include the opera Pelléas et Mélisande (1902), the orchestral works Prelude to The Afternoon of a Faun (1894) and La Mer (1905), and the piano Préludes (1910, 1913).
