June 1950

  • Both North and South Korean nations couldnt agree on the same terms because each wanted its own terms.

  • The influence for North Korea was commmunism and the influence for South Korea was pro- American and anti communist.

UN forces land at Inchon

September 1950

  • MacArthurs plan was to cut off forces by bypassing enemy strongholds with an amphibious assault.
  • MacArthur ganied Trumans support and was able to take Inchon and the South Korean capital Seoul.

N. Korean forces pushed back across 38th parallel

September 1950

  • North Korean forces pushed back across 38th parallel because the new aim was the destruction of the North Korean armed forces.
  • America and South Korea desired revenge due to all the deaths and wounded.

PRC send forces over border into Korea

October 1950

  • China entered the Korean War.
  • China was motivated so join because they had been exploited and humiliated by other countries and this could give them a chance to re- establish them selfs.

US led UN forces are routed

November 1950

  • America led UN force by General Douglas MacArthur who landed at Inchon and quickly liberated Seoul.
  • This made the North Korean amry fallback.
  • Inchon was a success and the UN wanted to unify Korea by force.

PRC forces retake Seoul

January 1951

  • Chinese took over Seoul, and this advance 85km further South.
  • UN launched forces for retaking Seoul and pushing and this made the Chinese get pushed back across the 38th parallel before communist offensives regained some of this lost territory.

Truman dismiss General MacArthur

April 1951

  • MacArthur was dismissed due to opposing the Truman's doctrine of containment.
  • He violated the JCS directive that all goverment officails had to obtain.
  • Many MacArthur supporters wanted to impeach Truman.

Peace talks stall

1953

  • China proposed the armistice in 1951 and wasnt signed until 1953 and was communist who wanted to defect to the Free World.
  • Truman refused that communist POWs to return into China.

President Eisenhower is elected

January 1953

  • Eisenhower won a landslide victory over Democrat Adlai Stevenson II, due to this it had ended Democratic party wins that stretched back to 1932.
  • Truman proposed that he and Eisenhower run together on the Democratic ticket, but. Eisenhower rejected his proposal.

Ceasefire agreed

July 1953

  • The ceasefire agreedment was use because the nations considered using atomic bombs and it would harm poeple.
  • And it would have had conflict with millions of soldiers and wasnt enough millitary.

Stalin death

March 1953

  • Stalin suffered from series of strokes.
  • Due to Stalins death it had made a change for the Soviet Union.
