COLONIZATION

Jamaica was originally colonized by Spain in 1655-1670. During that time the English had captured Jamaica. Spain had formally ceded the country to the English in 1670. After that the British had control of Jamaica from 1707 to 1962. In 1962 Jamaica was officially declared independent.

The Spanish wanted to find trade routes that weren’t known by the rest of the Europeans to find gold and riches. The reason the British colonized Jamaica was because of sugar.

Effects of the People

EFFECTS ON THE PEOPLE
