LGV- an STI

an LGV is known as a lymphogranuloma venereum is a sexually transmitted bacterial infection.
- caused by a strain of chlamydia bacteria.
- bacteria can be found in body fluids such as semen, pre-ejaculate and more
these occur in the lymphatic system usually

- 338 cases of LGV over the last 4 years just Quebec.
- cases were male. mean age was 41 years.
- 81%-Montreal
- met mostly through the internet (77%).
SWOT Analysis
- uncommon in Canada until 2003.
- very common in urban centers in Canada.
- anyone can get it just by having any sexual interaction, even an ordinary teen our age

- between 2003 and 2012, rates of reported cases of LGV increased
- highest relative rate increase: 10 and 14
- while the highest relative rate increase in females occurred among those aged 60 and over!
how is it transmitted
- unprotected anal, oral or vaginal sexual contact.
- trauma to the skin/mucous membranes.
- spread sharing sex toys between partners.
- even if they have no symtoms
how can you get tested
- based on symptoms,
- a test or exam of any sores or swelling, and sexual history.
- done with a swab and a blood sample.
- swab can be sent to a specialized laboratory to look for the LGV specific strains of chlamydia.
signs and symtoms
- anus: anal discomfort , discharge and more
- fever, chill, weight loss, and feel unwell, maybe not have any symptoms.
- The lymph glands may become swollen and filled with pus,
- appear around three to 30 days after infection.
Treatments:
- Antibiotics
- not sexual intercourse until completed
- swollen lymph nodes:medicated needle.
- surgery
- condoms and water-based lubricants
- limit sex partners.
