Where did Maahes come from?
Topic 1
- Maahes was a solar god of war who took the form of a lion, and by others described as the son of Bast.
- He was a individual god in the Middle Kingdom, but he fairly remained unknown until the New Kingdom.
- There was once an origin about Maahes that he was once an Egyptian version of Apedemak, lion-god worshipped in Nubia.
What is the social importance of Maahes?

- Maahes was given many names by the Egyptians like "The Lord of Massacre", "Weilder of the Knife", "The Scarlet Lord" he was known by many.
- He was considered to be the incarnation of the burning heat of the sun he was described as a god of storms. Yet even with his aggressive aspect, Maahes was also thought of as a protective deity.
- Maahes was also associated with Nefertum that it was sometimes suggested that he was the only aspect of this god, who sometimes took the leonine form.
What are the rituals associated with Maahes?

- Maahes has a festival that is also contributed to him called the Summer Solstice since he is relevent to being the incarnation of the burning heat of the sun
- Maahes has a cult center at Leonopolis in Lower Egypt, but was more worshipped in Upper Egypt
- Osorkon III built Maahes a temple in Per-Bast, and Nay-ta-hut made a home for lions, sacred animal to Maahes.
