Types of Prejudice:
How does prejudice within different institutions dictate the treatment of different groups of people?
Many problems in the eduaction system are expressed through Sasha and Richard's characters. Sasha's school experience are impaced through their gender; such as being treated differently becuase of presenting in a feminine way while identifing as agender. Richard's experiences are impacted by his race; he is constanly underestimated by others in the school system and told he dosen't fit the perfect student picture.
Prejudice within the healthcare system can lead to unequal access to quality care and differential treatment based on race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, or other factors. Biaises within Healthcare provider's can result in disparities in diogenes, treatment plans, pain management, and overall health outcomes for different groups of people. Sasha was treated as a male patient even when they idenitfy as agender, there was and still is a lack of gender comforming care within the healthcare system.
Prejudice in Religious institutions can lead different groups of people into feeling unwelcome, and uncomfortable.
This is seen in the novel as Richard and Sasha may both be viewed upon as different due to their backgrounds.
Prejudice in the employment system can create hostile work environments and limit opportunities for certain groups. Discrimination in hiring, promotions, pay, and benefits can occur based on race, sexuality, gender, and disability. This problem affected Sasha in the story, when they saw that there was not enough consideration for transgender people at Karl's workplace.
Prejudice within the criminal system can contribute to racial profiling, unequal treatment in arrests and sentacing. Law inforcment & media biases can also lead to unreasonable targeting, harsaament, and violance against different groups. This problem directly affects both Richard and Sasha within the novel when dealing with sentancing and the media.
