CELLS

Cells

What is a cell?

What is a cell?

A cell is the smallest unit of life. It is the building blocks of life and is the first level of organization. Makes up all other organisms. A human body is made up of 100 trillion cells. There are two different types of cells, prokaryotic and eukaryotic. They have appeared about 3.8 billion years ago.

Examples of Cells

Examples of Cells

Plant Cells Brain Cells

Tissue

What is a tissue?

Tissue

What is a Tissue?

What is a Tissue?

Tissue is a group of similar cells working to perform a function. They are the 2nd level of organization after the cell. It is made up of different cells to do a certain functions. It is the next of organization after the cell. There are four main types of tissue muscle, connective, nervous, and epithelial tissue.

Muscle Tissue Epithelial Tissue

Nervous Tissue Connective Tissue

Organ

Organs

What is an organ?

What is an organ?

An organ is a group of tissues working together to prefrom a certain task/function. It is the next level of organization after the tissue and is more complex then a tissue. It is the 3rd level of organization and is more important then a tissue. An organ can preform up to 500 differtent types of functions all by itself.

Example

Example

Heart- Pumps blood around the body

Lungs- Let us breath air

Brain- The brain controls the other organs and bodys

Stomach- Digests food and gets the nutrients out of them

Organ system

Organ System

What is an organ system?

What is an organ system?

An organ system is a group of organs working together to perform a task. It is the next level of organization after the organ and is the 4th level of organization. It is the biggest part of an organism that is not the organism itself. There are multiple different organ system but the human body has 11 different organ systems.

Examples

Examples

Circulatory system- Brings blood around the body

Digestive system- Digests food and gets nutrients from them

Respiratory system- Brings in Oxygen and lets out Carbon

Muscular system- Is responsible for movement, your muscles, etc.

Organism

What is an organism?

What is an organism?

An organism is the last level of organization after the organ system. It is made up of everything on the level of organization from the cell to the organ system. It is an entire living thing and functions all by itself. They are many different organisms in the world from humans to flys to birds to ants. There are about 8.7 million different types of organisms on the Earth. Have appeared almost 4 billion years ago.
