Introduction

The Honey Badger and the Honey Guide Bird

By: Daiwik & Yusuf

What is symbiosis?

What is symbiosis?

Symbiosis is the relationship between two different organisms which could also be called a symbiotic relationship. Mutualism is a type of a symbiotic relationship where both organisms benifit from each other.

Honey Guide Bird

Honey Guide Bird

The Honey Guide lives in African savannas up in the trees where it's nest is. It is a light brown colour with a white underbelly. It eats honey and insects.

Honey Badger

Honey Badger

The Honey Badger lives in the burrows of the African savanna and it's diet consists of honey (one of it's most favourite food), insects, reptiles, Crocodiles up to 1 meter, snakes up to 3 meters, and large mammals. It's known as the most fiercest animal on the savanna. It's bottom half is black it's top half is light brown. White seperates these two colours.

Relationship

The Relationship Between the Honey Guide and the Honey Badger

These two organisms interdepened on each other by the Honey Guide leading the Honey Badger to the beehive wich was made in a fallen log. Then, the badger busts open the hive and takes the honey it needs and the leftovers go to the Honey Guide to feast on.

What if...

What if... Does this relationship sustain biodiversity?

This relationship does sustain biodiversity because if the Honey Guide was to be eliminated, the Honey Badger would not be able to find the hive so it woudn't be able to have honey. If the Honey Bager would be eliminated, the Honey Guide would be able to find the nest, but wouldn't be able to break in. After a long period of time, they would become extinct which would lead to a chain reaction in whatever animal that ate either would become extinct and what the Badger or the Honey Guide ate, those animals would become over populated.
