We started with a whole school instructional model which had been previously developed as a whole school This is embedded into our lesson planning and structure of all classrooms.
Maths had (and still have) common assessment expectations from Years 7-10, as outlined in our documentation, including problem-solving and application tasks.
We had two new Maths teachers start at our school in 2023.

We wanted our Numeracy IM to support our whole school IM, not replace it.
Our ‘Explain’ and ‘Explore’ sections are combined as these are considered a cycle in learning.

Drew, Casey and Rachel meet once a week for a stand up meeting.
Aim is to share progress, gain advice, provide direction and lead change.
We’ve found that this ‘brief check in’ keeps us on track and accountable.
Minutes taken and available on a shared drive for the team to view.
Observation template created, trialled by Rachel and Drew, and provided to all staff for feedback.
Observations embedded into PLC cycle 3. All staff have been observed in term 3.
Observation template has been utilised by other KLA areas also.
Numeracy was made the focus of our 3rd PLC cycle.
Staff chose either fluency, understanding, problem-solving or reasoning as their ‘crumb’.
Pre-testing indicated student ability in this area.
Explicit teaching of skills and regular tasks to practice and develop the skill.
Post testing and presentations to occur in the next week.

- Resources as recommended and/or provided by the NLC.
- NLC days held in Hamilton, which is over 2 hours from St Arnaud.
- Small KLA numbers mean that the workload in making changes to curriculum/teaching is greater.
- Having access to a similar, partner school may provide support and inspiration.
