FORMATION AND PATHWAY OF SECRETION PROTEIN

By: Shane Keup

Nucleus

FIRST STEP: Nucleus/Nucleulos

mRNA produced from transcription relased from the nuclear pores

  • The nucleus and nucleulos are the areas that contain DNA and mRNA that is created through transcription
  • The first step occurs when secretion protein mRNA created by DNA transcription leaves the nucleus out of the nuclear envelope, which is the double membrane layer around the nucleus that has pores that allows the mRNA to be passed to the rough ER

Rough ER and Attatched Ribosomes

SECOND AND THIRD STOP: Rough ER (Endoplasmic Recticulum) and Attatched Ribosomes

  • The second step occurs when the ribosomes attached to the rough ER synthesize proteins using mRNA sequences composed of the mRNA that came from the nucleus
  • The third step occurs when the newly synthesized proteins created by the attatched proteins are packaged for secretion in transport vesicles in the rough ER, which are then sent to the golgi apparatus

These two steps occur in the rough ER and the attached ribosomes which are the dots attached to the ER

Golgi Apparatus

FOURTH STEP: Golgi Apparatus

  • The synthesized, packaged proteins are transported in vesicles from the rough ER into the Cis face of the golgi, which recieves the vesicles
  • The fourth step occurs when the packaged proteins in transport vesicles enter the golgi where they are checked to make sure that correct folding and chemical modifications are made to the synthesized proteins, which are then shipped out of the golgi to the cell membrane of the cell
  • After the synthesized, packaged proteins are ensured by the golgi, the protein vesicles are shipped out of the golgi through the trans face of the golgi to the cell membrane

Cis face- recieves packaged protein vesicles from rough ER

Trans face- ships packaged protein vesicles to cell membrane

Cell Membrane

FIFTH (LAST) STEP: Cell Membrane/ Exterior

  • The fifth (last) step occurs when the synthesized, packaged, and ensured proteins are shipped out of the trans face of the golgi apparatus to the cell membrane where they are secreted from the cell to preform different roles outside of the cell

Synthesized, packaged proteins are secreted from the cell
