IPRC is the Identification, Placement and Review committee Process
The IPRC is responsible for :
1.Deciding if a student is identified as exceptional
2.Identify the category and area of exceptionality
3.Decide on an appropriate placement of the student identified
4.Review identification and placement at least once a school year
The composition and functions of the identification, Placement and Review committee is governed by Regulation 181/98
If the child is identified as exceptional, it is the responsibility of the committe to indicate the category and definition of exceptionality in accordance to Onatrio’s Ministry of Education.
Meaning
Exceptional means that the student cannot be successful in a regular program, delivered by a classroom teacher, without support

1. IPRC must provide to parents ( students 16 years and older) in writing's days prior to the meeting be held.
2. IEP has to be completed within 30 school days of placements of student.
3. Principal must acknowledge an IPRC request in writing within 15 days
4. If parent has notified they will attend and do not need interpreter they
can contuine with IPRC
5. They must conduct a interview once a year or after 3 months upon
parents request.
6. Parents can waive the review by telling the parents
Classroom teacher understand the students strength and weakness. Classroom teacher helps met specific learning goals of the student by using accommodation and modification. Over all, classroom teachers always try their best in meeting their learning
needs. Teachers take the responsibility to communicate with
parents, principals, and collaborate with the special education
teacher. Most importantly, the classroom teacher
understands and knows the students need.

- They would suggest program placements , which should be followed by IEP
The IPRC takes a lot at different assessments of the student. They must consider the students educational assessments. Not only educational assessments but physical and mental assessments. This includes psychological, psychiatric, health, audiological, social, work, speech and required. With that being said, having a conversion with the parent and student over 16 years old if given permission.
If IPRC identifies the student as exceptional and the parents agree with IPRC consulation and where the students placement is, an IEP will be developed. Before the IEP is developed, the parents must receive a written statement of :

If I were to present to my colleagues it is important for them to understand the importance of IPRC and what IPRC is. If I didn't take this course, I wouldn't of had an idea of what IPRC is and what protocol to take . Just like I didn't no certain information, there might be other colleagues who might not know what IPRC or have knowledge of the steps and their functions. I want classroom teachers to understand that their input is crucial to IPRC. With that being said, teachers should understand that there are many types of exceptional and in different areas. Learning about the IPRC can help teachers understand how to help a student with special needs and its precaution. Keeping it mind that, it is not a process that happens over night !
