Some stats:
We currently have 53 tutors working at both sites
In 2017 they logged 3853 hours with our students
We also have 12 office volunteers between both sites
They provided over 800 hours of supports
A VAST array of skills
Changes implemented
Expanded the role of one of our Admin Assistants to Outreach Coordinator
Dedicated hours to recruiting tutors
Changed commitment levels for tutors
No longer a 52 week minimum
Tutors can work their tutoring into work and travel schedules
There are virtually no restrictions on how a tutor can commit their time
Provided different tutoring roles
One-to-one Laubach Certified tutoring role still exists
Added classroom tutor assistant, Independent Learning Group (ILG) tutor and Modular Program Facilitator roles
One-to-one tutors still require Laubach Certification
This includes our NEW online tutor training AND 6-hour workshop by Laubach-Certified Trainers
Online training hosted at https://laubachtrainingpost.contactnorth.ca/
New tutor roles require NEW online tutor training AND mentoring by either staff or an experienced tutor in the delivery of the modular programs
This mentoring can be anywhere from 4 hours to 16 hours depending on the skill and comfort level of the tutor
One-to-one Laubach Certified tutoring role still exists
Added
Time commitment could be
Tutors seem more energized
Students have access to more tutors, more skills and more points of view
We can run several programs simultaneously
We can match learners into similarly skilled groups
We seem to be attracting a wider range of tutors from different backgrounds
We have retained tutors who were thinking of quitting
Tutors with barriers (anxiety etc...) have a vehicle to develop their own skills
*We need to do more evaluation in 2018 to determine the long-term effects of these changes
We can afford to run very small classes (3-4 students)
2017 was the first time in CaMS history that TLG met its number and SQS
Not only did we meet 2017-2018 numbers, we met our numbers projected for 2019
AND--Less pressure on our core learners
AND--No staff melt-down at year end!
