Rosa Parks was born Rosa Louise McCauley on February 4, 1913, in Tuskegee, Alabama. After her parents, James and Leona McCauley, separated when Rosa was two, Rosa’s mother moved the family to Pine Level, Alabama, to live with her parents, Rose and Sylvester Edwards.

After a long day of work, Rosa Parks, a 42 year old woman, was on her way home. On December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on the bus for a white man. People say that she was the first black person to be imprisoned. But it's not true. There was a black woman just before her that was imprisoned. Her name was Claudette Colvin, she was 15 years old when she was arrested for resisting bus segregation in Montgomery, Alabama 1955. Rosa Parks lead an extraordanary life. But the world only knows half the story.
