Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura

Definition

o A bleeding disorder where the immune system destroys platelets which are necessary for normal blood clotting

Definition

it involves a low number of platelets in blood leading to increased tendency bleeding or bruising

occurs among adults, most commonly on the age group of 18-40 years old

CAUSES

Auto immune diseases [lupus]

bone marrow diseases [aplastic anemia, leukemia, some lymphomas]

chemotherapy and radiation therapy

enlarged spleen

exposure to toxic chemicals

Viruses [Hepatitis C, and HIV]
