OUTCOME 3

In several regions in Ukraine (especially Odesa, Mykolaiv, Kherson) violence and intolerance based on stereotypes and prejudices against other identities are reduced and social cohesion within society is strengthened on the local level. Tolerance, mutual acceptance and appreciation for cultural diversity is promoted through socially engaged art, art initiatives, peace education, as well as through supporting civic engagement.

Process Indicator 1.

Audiences in Ukraine and other countries are aware of the personal experiences, trauma and plight of the survivors of the military conflict in the East of Ukraine.

Process Indicator 2.

Policy-makers and relevant institutions are sensitized and mobilized to address needs of civilians, especially children affected by this military conflict.

Process Indicator 3. Representatives of art community and civil society actors work regularly together to implement joint activities to address tensions and conflicts and to accompany social transformation processes with the help of socially engaged art.

WAR CHILDHOOD MUSEUM

2020-2021

1. First public exhibition on the stories and objects of the children affected by conflict in Ukraine is held in Kyiv.

It was visited by the representatives of the Ukrainian media, state authorities, CSO, international organizations, general public.

1. WCM Ukraine and Playback theater actors designed together performance dedicated to the War Childhood Exhibition topic in Kyiv,

Performance attendees shared their reactions, emotions towards exhibited stories and revealed own personal or family relations to the war childhood topic.

1. Dozens of the stories from children affected by conflict in Ukraine (war on Donbas, occupation of Crimea) are collected, legalized, shaped for the public presentation.

Interested state institutions (Ministry on Occupied Territories, Ombudsman, Ministry of Social policy, MoE are introduced to the stories and problems of the IDP children and children-survivors of the war.

Strategy

It is assumed that by documenting the experiences of war survivors in an archive that this information will be used in processes of justice, truth and reconciliation in the future.

2. Knowledge and skills of the sensitive work with personal stories of children-survivors of war, their collection and documentation are transferred to Ukrainian experts (from Sarajevo museum to WCM Ukraine).

3. Several children - heroes of the exhibited stories visited exhibition in Kyiv with parents and both (children and parents) shared opinion that their emotions about the war and personal experience is finally addressed to the broader public in Ukraine,

2. Methodology, principles and philosophy of the collecting, shaping and exhibiting of the stories of children -survivors of war, focus on the personal experience, neutrality is presented to the several Ukrainian museums representatives on the separate side event within exhibition.

Strategy

It is assumed that the application and promotion of innovative approaches in collecting, documenting and exhibiting of personal experience of war survivors, especially children, will support a healing from trauma process for this group, raising public awareness and empathy towards challenges faced by war survivors and influence decision-makers to take action
