Childhood

Abuses

He was born in Genova, Quindio in a dysfunctional family, where his father constantly attacked his mother, hitting her even when she was pregnant (all this said by Garavito).

His father was his first abuser, then he was sexually abused by his father's friends. This diverted his sexuality leading him to have a fascination with children. His school life was not very pleasant either, he was constantly humiliated by his classmates and sometimes by his teachers, considering him a weirdo.

“Later I began to feel an attraction to people of the same sex. My brothers and sisters were very young, and I felt something inside me that I couldn't explain. We all went to a bed, where I insinuated that they take off their clothes and began to caress them, nothing happened there, neither my parents noticed, nor perhaps my brothers remember. While sleeping, I grabbed my younger brothers and took off their clothes and without them knowing I caressed them”

First victims

At the age of 15 he committed his first crime, according to his words he did not intend to rape himself but to "slightly abuse" another minor. The victim managed to get rid of him by alerting the authorities with a scream. When his father found out about this, he was thrown out of his house, reprimanding him for having committed this act on a man and not on a woman.

in October 1992, in Jamundí, he committed the first murder in his name. As he touched it, the man used blades he had brought to kill a child. From there, he could not stop and, seeing any child, he decided that he should kill him to satisfy his sexual need.

In the 90s he began his wave of crimes, posing as different people, with different names and professions, he gained the children's trust by offering them jobs and gaining their trust, then he took them for walks through desolate areas making them tired so he could abuse them by tying them up and torturing them, mutilating them and even beheading them.

Capture

He was caught trying to rape a minor. A homeless man passing through the area heard the boy's screams so he ran to help him, the minor, seeing the possibility of escaping, went to where the homeless man was, Garavito followed them with a dagger but when he saw that he was approaching an area where he could be seen, he decided to flee. The boy's family called the national police who after a while came to capture him. Garavito gave a false name at the time of questioning him, after much investigation they found his real name and claimed 200 rapes and +100 deaths of children. He was sentenced to 40 years in prison (the maximum sentence in Colombia) in the maximum security prison (La tramaqua) in Valledupar Colombia.
