Culture Misappropriation
- Culture misappropriation is the unacknowledged or inappropriate adoption of the customs, practices, ideas, etc. of someones beliefs or a societies beliefs.
- Unfortunately, many different cultures have often been misrepresented due to someone’s ignorance.
Stereotypes
- A stereotypes is a broad, oversimplified assumption made about all members of a group.
- There are countless stereotypes about Native Americans.
- Native Americans want to seize control of their own narrative.
- From the perspective of Native Americans, they are ready to tell their own story.
Film & "Costumes"
- Often white actors would use redface to give the perception that they were Indian.
- This is referred to as "playing Indian"
- American culture has used traditional clothing as Halloween costumes or for costumes in films.
