In Pineapple Express, we look at the two main characters and their love and need for marijuana. While in this movie it shines a light on the comical side of weed and the enjoyment one can get out of it, there is a dark side to drugs and how addiction can ruin a person's life. Weed can look like a fun drug to use, but it can be a gateway drug for other dangerous substances. The extreme case if one keeps consuming drugs and want a higher high could be detrimental, for example, in The Basketball Diaries a young boy who goes to a catholic school and plays basketball goes down the wrong path of getting involved into heroin, making his life disintegrate in front of him. While both films are opposite of one another it shows the reality of how addiction can start and end.
