Romeo and Juliet Act 4 summary

Act 4 - Scene 1

Scene I

In scene 1 of act 4 Romeo and Juliet, Juliet gets a poison from the Friar to make her heart stop, blood run cold and make people believe she is dead. But in reality she will be perfectly fine. Friar Lawrence gives Juliet this poison so she doesn't have to marry Paris and then can be with Romeo.

Act 4 - Scene 2

Scene II

In scene 2 of act 4 Romeo and Juliet, Juliet finally agrees to marry Paris. She only agrees because she knows she will be taking the poison and will not have to marry Paris. Capulet is very happy that Juliet is happy with this that he moves the wedding up a day.

In scene 3 of act 4 Romeo and Juliet, Juliet has doubts about the poison. She doesn't know if it will actually work when she takes it. She also is worried that she wont wake up and wont get to be with Romeo. She considers suicide but then puts down her knife and takes the poison.

Scene IV

In scene 4 of act 4 Romeo and Juliet, Capulet is running around trying to plan the wedding for Juliet and Paris. He eventually sends the nurse to go wake Juliet and to get her ready for the wedding.

Act 4 - Scene 5

Scene V

In scene 5 of act 4 Romeo and Juliet, the nurse goes to Juliet's room to prepare her for the wedding. At first she believes she is just in a deep sleep but then realizes she isn't breathing. She then calls out for help and everyone enters one by one. Everyone is devastated and cant believe this happened.
