Salvation History Timeline

Creation

God is love and since we are created in his image and likeness, we are products of love. Through evolution, creation is continuing to unfold.

Creation

The Fall

Our relationship with God is fractured, but with God's restorative justice, we can work to regain the lost relationship.

The Fall

Covenant with Abraham

This covenant is the first of many that exemplifies God's restorative justice as He promises to Abraham descendants as numerous as the stars or sand to form nations.

Mosaic Covenant

God liberates the Hebrews from slavery in Exodus, redeeming them. As well as with the Ten Commandments, God forms a community with His Chosen People.

Mosaic Covenant

Cycle of Judges

The people turn away from God, the people get conquered, the people ask for God's help and He sends a Judge, the Judge saves them, they live in peace for a period, and the cycle begins again.

Messiah Prophecy

The prophets tell of doom and destruction that will come to the Israelites if they do not repent and return to God. Their messages have hope of a messiah that will come down in what they think of as a king to come save/rule them.

Annunciation

Mary, born without sin, becomes an example of how we should say yes to the Lord and becomes not only the mother of Jesus, but our mother as well

Annunciation

Incarnation

Incarnation

Since the beginning there has been the Word (aka Jesus). This proves that Jesus was not just a last minute thought because humanity fell- God had been planning Jesus since before Creation. Jesus becoming human makes us adopted children of God, which in turn makes us brothers and sisters in Him (Jesus) and unites us in God, who is love.

Baptism of Christ

Jesus in the Jordan represents the people of Israel, or even us, being washed away from our original sin. We pass through the water to be saved.

Baptism of Christ

Messianic Ministry

Jesus assumes 3 roles; priest, prophet, and king. As priest, Jesus prays and sacrifices in his daily actions of service. As prophet, He proclaims the kingdom of God. Finlly, as king, Jesus assumes role as servant-king. This means that although He continues to serve us, we use Him as an example to seve other as He rules over us.

Public Ministry

Jesus used 2 main types of teachings to convey the coming of the Kingdom of God.

Public Ministry

Parables

Parables were not meant to be taken in an allegorical sense because then it can be viewed as against Jewish teachings. The Jewish people aren't meant to bee seen as people of prejudice with Jesus; they were only following their ancient traditions. Instead, we have to try to understand a deeper meaning in the parables. Parables are written in an way where there is always a twist in the end. For example, the parable of the workers in the vineyard. You would think the parable would talk about having fair wages- this is not the case. Instead, it is a story about generosity since the landlord gave as much to the workers as he could.

Miracles

Miracles are very important in the bible. Most miracles follow a certain way of being written- first background, then mariacle, and finally proof of miracle. Miracles are not answers to problems. On the contrary, they are meant to spark questions in our relationship with God. Jesus didn't want people to know or see miracles be preformed because He wanted the people to have faith on their own without 'proof'. As well as miracles aren't divine. If they were, that would mean Moses and other prophets would be considered 'divine'. Miracles are just signs by God done by a person sent by Him.

Kingdom of God

Beatitudes

The beatitudes weren't sent to be full requirements. Like we shouldn't be sad nowt o be happy later. Instead, they were sent as a sign of hope for us to have better in Heaven, if we are opened to it. If we are closed minded and 'rich', than it is harder for us to share with God than actual sinners.

Love

God sent His Son because He truly wants us to share in His love. He wants to mend the relationship that had been broken when humanity fell. Our love with Him is dynamic, not static. He has made it so we would be able to share in an divine life; we would be able to live with Him if we are opened to it through the Holy Spirit. It would be life without suffering.

Discipleship

The difference between being a disciple and being a follower is that you are not just amazzed by God's work, you truly believe in it and want to continue on the path to God.

Discipleship

Last Supper

The Last Supper is an remembrance of the Jewish Passover meal and Seder supper. It represents the ancient covenant the Chosen people had with God. This supper is different, though, because it offers life in the New Covenant, institutes priesthood, and presents the Eucharist in a sacrificial meal as we anticipate Jesus' Paschal mystery.

Last Supper

Crucifixion

The types of pain we experience in our daily lives is physical, phycological, and existential. Existential pain means we have lost meaning in our lives, which is terrifying to think about. We shouldn't take this pain and project it unto to others though. A perfect example we should follow is Jesus on the Cross. He was going through the worst pain imaginable, but still did it for us. Because Jesus is not fully divine, He proves that our pain is relatable and God understands what we go through.

Resurrection

The Resurrection is the center of our faith. Without it Christianity would be a fraud. There are three lessons we can learn from it. First, this world isn't it. Meaning, although our world is good, God has created a new heaven for us to share in with Him. Second, the age of tyranny is over. God is more power than any tyrant. Finally, hope is open to all. God did not just send Jesus to save the Chosen people, He sent Him to save us all.

Ascension

The Ascension was not jus Jesus going up to Heaven to leave us. In fact, heaven isn't even a totally different world in the sky. God created His new heaven on earth. The Ascension is an example of the interwiening of heaven and earth. The Ascension and Pentecost go hand in hand in proving this because as one thing goes to heaven, another descends to earth.
