Help us we are being held captive
The big question in this presentation is, why is there so much skin variation? Also, what causes this array of colors in the first layer of the human Integumentary System?
That's right, this is the amino acid which determines your skin color. It is a pigment which lies on top of the skin cells. They form a super nuclear cap on top of the cell. Protecting it and giving it a certain color.
Melanin is a very important amino acid. It protects you from UV rays, which can can greatly harm your DNA and cause mutations. It also protects you from skin cancer. I really like melanin since I can avoid having webbed toes.
(yes that's actually a possible mutation.)
The reason everyone has a different skin color is because of all of the different types of melanin and the amounts of melanin that they have. Let's go over that my fellow floridans.
(idk maybe you aren't Floridian and you just moved in from Bangladesh or something, if so welcome).
There are two main types of Melanin. The amount of each determines your skin color.
boi
I'm sorry everyone I had to
This red/yellow melanin is more abundant in lightly pigmented people (*cough* BTS *cough*). This type of melanin causes people to be more light skinned. But, humans who are light skinned have less melanin than darker colored people.
forgive me pls
Eumelanin
Eumelanin
This is the brown/black type melanin. It is more common in darker pigmented people. There is usually more of it in their bodies than there is Pheomelanin in light skinned people. The more of it there is, the darker the person will appear to be.
ya boi got melanin
damn, can't find it Paul
Well, "hmmm" you say, "what if we didn't have any melanin?". Well you'd probably have about 69 toes and a tumor in your left ear. If we didn't have any melanin at all, tons of UV rays would go through your living cells and cause havoc in your body. You probaly don't want that.
where's my melanin jerry
Anyways, Melanin is an amazing aspect for us humans and other animals. It gives us diversity and protection from various dangers of the world. Skin is beautiful, let that melanin shine! :D
I'll add the questions and answers once I finish the presentation.
Any questions?
