Moral, social and ethical issues

  • Bulling- in chat rooms, by using e-mail, blogs and text messages on a mobile phone.
  • Spreading rumours- it is very easy to spread rumours using the Internet and you only have to tell a few people in a chat room to make the rumour spread very quickly.
  • Using e-mail to give someone bad news, which explaining to them face-to-face would have been better.
  • Setting up websites, which contain incorrect information- people may rely on this information and use it becuase they think that it is correct.
  • Gambling addiction- gambling can cause many social problems, such as overspending.
  • Addiction to computer games- many people spend many hours on computer games, which thier social skills and schoolswork can suffer greatly in the process.
  • Privacy issues- such as social networking sites, which all erode a user's privacy.
  • Obesity- many activities in the past had involved some sort of physical exercise. not the use of internet for very long periods of time can be very unhealthy.

Ethical

  • Sending spam- which if sent spam, you can end up wasting time trying to delete it.
  • Plagiarism- using the internet to copy material without attributing ro referenceing the source of information.
  • Using photo editing software to distort reality- by using photo software, you can no longer believe what you see.
  • Using someone's internet connection without them knowing- this can result can slow the network down for legitimate users.
