Stained Glass Windows

Layout

The building of the Santa Maria Novella actually contains six smaller chapels of worship. All six branch off from the main hall where the alter is located. There are also several cloisters or covered walk.

Stained glass windows were fist used in Cathedrals. They were primarily used to show scenes from the Bible that people were not able to read. To color the glass windows, people would mix certain metals to get the color.

This Particular stained glass window is called a Rose window ( or Catherine window). The Rose window has a circular shape and is divided into segments. Rose windows are most commonly used in churches with a Gothic architectural style
