Historical Background

La Union Medical Diagnostic Center Inc. (LUMED) is an 18-bed tertiary hospital located in the heart of the City of San Fernando, La Union, the regional center of Government Offices and also the geographic center of Region I, uniting the provinces of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Abra, Panagasinan and Benguet. It started in 1994 as Medical Laboratories and Diagnostic Center founded by Dr. Evamarie Dyquiangco-Madayag but quickly grew into a full hospital owned and operated by a group of doctors and businessmen.

LUMED is a three (3) storey building with 1,800 square meters floor are sits on 829 square meter titled commercial lot with 454 square meters vacant parking area. LUMED has forty-eight (48) consultants who have their own specialties and sub-specialties.

In the years that passed, more equipment and services by LUMED has been added and made available to the people. Various government and private organizations began accrediting LUMED, the first of which came from DOH-POEA-MARINA opening the floodgates of OFWs, tourists, and immigrants from Regions 1, 2, 3 and CAR coming in for their medical exams. LUMED pioneered the conduct of pre-employment medical exams to OFWs and seafarers and still the number one in the Region. LUMED is also the first hospital in the North who introduced mobile clinic.

LUMED aims to provide the highest quality of medical services to the public. Fully equipped with complete, modern and computerized set of diagnostic equipment, LUMED creates fast, accurate and reliable results. It prides itself with having patient-friendly rates while still maintaining the efficiency ad high quality of services with qualified staff that La Union Medical Diagnostic Center and Hospital (LUMDCH) has been known for. The accreditation for a Secondary Level Hospital (Tertiary) granted by the Department of Health in 2003 reinforces this fact.

1. The organizational strucyure has a formal structure that clearly shows the relationships between positions as to authority, responsibility, and accountability.

2. Employees, employees' friends, and indigenous people are given hospitalization benefits and substantial discounts on medical check-ups, pharmacy, etc.

9. The entity does not have an official website where anybody can get information about the hospital.

10. The entity has only one security guard who is working only at daytime.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Management should conduct job rotations among employees to increase employyes' satisfaction and to expose them to various jobs.

Creation of entity's Audit Committee and hire a competent and qualiifed Internal Auditor.

Physically count the inventories at least at year end for confirmation purposes.

Hire two or more security guards to provide a more safety environment to both the employees and customers.
