Nicodemus tells rats about the injections and how they benefit them. Jonathan Frisby and Mr. Ages were the only two survivors. Out of respect from Jonathan, Nicodemus helps Mrs. Frisby’s family with their problem. Mrs. Frisby also gets caught by Billy, the youngest Fitzgibbon child while putting sleeping powder in the cat's, Dragon, bowl! A group of exterminators is heading their direction trying to kill the rats.

Mrs. Frisby overhears Mr. Fitzgibbon about a plan to execute the rats. Mrs. Frisby hears it just in time so that they can escape. Justin gets Mrs. Frisby out of the cage that she was put in. Mrs. Frisby tells Nicodemus and others of what she overheard. The rats make a plan to get out of the way. The rats move Mrs. Frisby’s house, to the “Lee of the Stone”. The rats move to a different location and the children of Mrs. Frisby think that Brutus and the other rats owe their life to Justin. The rats then decide to live in Thorn Valley.

This book is about the determination of a mother mouse to save her sick son before it is too late. Mrs. Frisby’s youngest, Timothy, has fallen sick and it's almost Moving Day! That means that it is either death for Timothy, or death for the whole family. Then, just as Mrs. Frisby is despairing, she meets the rats and figures out that it might not be as hopeless as it seems.

Moving Day for the mice is coming. They have to move on Moving Day because otherwise, their house will get dug up, and they will all die. However, Timothy is sick. The only person that Mrs. Frisby know that could possibly heal Timothy is Mr. Ages. Mr. Ages says that if they move him, he has a very high chance of dying!. Mrs. Frisby is desperate and begs for help . Mrs. Frisby asks Mr. Ages to do something that will help Timothy. Mr. Ages gives Mrs. Frisby some medicine, and slowly, Timothy started to get better. But Mrs. Frisby noticed that Timothy cannot recover in time for Moving Day.

Exposition

Mrs. Frisby's husband died 3 months ago. Mrs. Frisby has four children, Teresa, Martin, Cynthia, and Timothy, and they live in a partly buried cinder block. However, when spring comes Mr. Fitzgibbon, the farmer starts plowing. And Mrs. Frisby's house is in the way!

Climax

Mrs. Frisby meets the rats and discovers that rats have a mechanized society. The rats made elevators with an electricity grid to provide light and heat. The rats also has acquired human skills and found a way to keep storage of food. Their leader is Nicodemus, who tells Mrs. Frisby about the scientist who worked experiments on the rats.
