Religion

- Fertile soil, hilly coasts, forests, long rivers, and swamps
- Farming was very important and a way of life (plantations). They exported cash crops to other colonies
- This region had the largest amount of slaves, and they worked on slave plantations
- Warm climate: hot and humid summers; crops could be grown throughout the year
