Here long hand rolled coils are used to build upon a base and create a structure.
Clay is a product from the earth that when heated becomes hard.
Geologically, clay comes from decompressed rock. It is typically carried by water and settles together in a particular area that is mined.
Physically, clay's crystal structure is that of tiny sheets with water between them. The sheets are held together by suction but can slide past each other like a deck of wet cards.
Heat causes the clay to harden.
We already define this one. :D
We will be making Nature Name plates. You will be choosing a leaf or flower from a magazine provided to sketch in your sketch book LARGE. You will then practice making your name in a graffiti style (think bubble letters) in your sketch book. You will be given two sheets of paper to transfer your sketches on to then cut out. Then you will receive a slab of clay to trace your leaf/flower and name. Slip and score your clay cut out name on to your leaf/flower. Use at least THREE different textures on your name plate.
