Literature

This Painting is by Thomas Cole called "Architects Dream" It is one of my favorite paintings by him. The man in the painting is an Architect, and the Roman buildings and American church symbolizes his imagination for various buildings

The Scarlet Letter is a book written 1850 by Nathaniel Hawthorne. The book is about a woman named Hester Prynne who committed adultery with a priest in a puritan village and as a result gave birth to her daughter Pearl.

The book was one of America's first mass-published books because of the newly invented machine press.

2,500 books were sold out immediately, as reading was one of the only pastimes of that time. The book is said to have changed society, and many views are different then they were then.

A song most known, and still played today that was made in the 1820's was the song "Hail To The Chief" Which today is used as the theme song for our U.S. Presidents.

The title was taken from Sir Walter Scott's Poem "Lady Of The Lake" and the tune was taken from "The Boat Song"

A song not very well known made in 1828 was the song called "Oh no! We never mention her" A song which i find utterly hilarious in itself "oh, no, we never mention her,Her name is never heard,My lips are now forbid to speak That once familiar word;"

This song is written by Thomas Haynes Bayly.

Bayly lived from 1797 to 1839 and he was particularly known for the songs that he wrote, which numbered in the hundreds. Several of his songs were set to the music of famous composers, such as Sir Henry Rowley. He also set some of his songs to his own musical compositions.

Thomas Cole was a famous painter from around that time. He painted landscapes, with people usually in them. He tended to paint Roman Empire landscapes, involving columns, Roman buildings, and also religious seeming paintings. Such as the "Voyage of Life" Series, showing a man growing from child to elder, as an angel guides him through his life and is in every painting in the series.

He has made two series.

"Course of Empire"

and "Voyage of Life"

He is an American artist and is regarded as founder of Hudson River School.

He was educated at Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.

The fifth must be a sunset,—the mountains riven—the city a desolate ruin—columns standing isolated amid encroaching waters—ruined temples, broken bridges, fountains, sarcophagi &c.—no human figure—a solitary bird perhaps: a calm & silent effect. This picture must be as the funeral knell of departed greatness, and may be called the state of desolation

These are the words use to describe this painting "Course of Empire: Desolation" By Thomas Cole.
