Geometry and Astronomy

  • The Pyramid of the Sun was known to

have a geometric formula, similar to The

Great Pyramid of Egypt, called Giza. The

formula was to calculate the perimeter of

the base; (4 x π ) x h = Perimeter of the base.

  • The Pyramid of the Moon, Pyramid of the Sun, and the Feathered Serpent Temple all line up to be in the same form as Orion's Belt. The Toltecs has referred to Orion's belt as a guide that would only show up between November and Feburary.

Astronomy Continued

  • Throughout the 1960's and 1970's, a survey done by Hugh Harleston Jr., found out that, "the city was a precise scale model of the solar system, that had included Neptune, Uranus and Pluto.
  • The Toltecs had relied on a great amount of astronomy. They usually would make their measurements into degrees depending on the latitude and longitude of the Earth's axis along the equator. They had organized an outline of the city as shown on the left side. According to Ancient Code; the city had been oriented 15-25° east of the true north, the Pyramid of the Sun was perpendicular to the horizon of the sun and the rest of the buildings would be just at a right angle to the Pyramid of the Sun. The alignment of Orion's Belt would be between 85° to -75°. Most of the measurements were based off of rotation from the planets.

Why I chose this:

I chose the Toltecs or Teotihuacanos because I visited their region when I was 7 years old and I wanted to conduct more research to find out why this region was so important. Teotihuacan is known for their pyramids and temple. (I got to climb one of the pyramids.) Some regions are blocked off due to research and preservation of the pyramids. Until this day, research is still being conducted, the city is full of unsolved mysteries. Arriving there, there were many stores and tourist. This location is a wonderful experience to encounter. There are 4 different "buildings" which are: The Pyramid of the Sun, The Pyramid of the Moon the Temple of the Feathered Serpent, and La Ciudadela, each with an interesting background.

History of the Toltecs

Souvenirs from 2008!

  • Teotihuacan was recognized throughout the 1st-7th century by the Aztecs and Mayas.
  • Aztecs gave Teotihuacan its name.
  • Region was known for hosting sacrifices. Most of the remains and murlas can be found in the, Museo De Sitio De Teotihuacan.
  • During warfare, invaders that entered Teotihuacan were captured, to become prisoners and sacrificed to their sacred God(s) and the remains would be left in the pyramids. Not only were humans sacrificed, animals too.
  • Purpose of the P.O.M; to hold rituals as well as tombs, obsedian and greenstone. P.O.S; To hold rituals and a Serpine Mask was found. Serpent (Close to La Ciudadela) there were burials.
  • Around 750 A.D., this city of Teotihuacan had started to lose its population overtime. Researchers say that there might have been and invasion so the Toltecs moved East and there also had been reports that the city could have been burned down, with execption to the pyramids.
  • This city is still filled with unsolved mysteries.
  • There wasn't a religion, but they had beliefs in certain Gods. Such as the Great Goddess known as Spider Woman, that was connected to the underworld. Quetzalcoatl was a man that was worshiped like a God and had brought math and culture to the community.
  • La Ciudadela was a form a apartment complexes that the Toltecs lived in.
  • Rituals were planned based on the rotation of the planets.
  • Toltecs were known for their astronomy skills and connection amongst their God(s).
