By: Jessica Almendarez

Civic Values:

How can it be achieved?

The Key to Achieving the Goal of Civic Values:

  • Teach Democratic and Civic Discourse: Oral expression, critical thinking, listening skills, and exchanging in ideas, and political tolerance

  • Provide a Resource map on current events, upcoming local activities, school programs, and outside resources where families can participate

• Tailor the student’s education to address the student’s individualized needs and strengths and ensure that this education benefits the student (Amatea, 2013).

• Listen, allow parents to be part of the solution in their child’s civic learning; collaborate to build on student-centered learning climate on civility and democracy

  • Teach them to disagree with ideas, laws, or policies, and not people; by making sound logical arguments supported by evidence and a commitment to facts, students can engage in meaningful political debates without attacking people (Moore, 2012).

The position of what role the state and federal law, school policies, teachers, and/or families view on student’s civic values that is influenced by not only by recent data, but acquiring new ways to bridge the gap on influences on the student’s environment.
