Cleaning Acid Spills

Amrita & Jessy

Acids

  • Hazardous to dispose
  • Corrosive
  • Severe damages to skin
  • Most are very toxic by inhalation
  • Fire hazards

Acid spills can occur in...

  • labs
  • workplaces
  • vehicle accidents

(Sulphuric acid spill - Russia)

Neutralization - Adding bases

*Strong acids and bases can react explosively. Using weak or low concentration acids or bases for neutralization reactions is ideal.

Why?

  • Easier & not hazardous to dispose
  • Less harmful - easier to handle
