The quick way to learn about the French conquest and colonization of Vietnam

The french colonization of Vietnam

A picture of the French conquest

The French invasion to Vietnam was decided by Napoleon during July of 1857. The French military was to attack the city of Tourane and it's harbor. In August 1858 the french army with their 14 vessels and 2,500 soldiers attacked on September 1st. Then when Napoleon decided that he needed to make more profit he decided he wanted to take over Saigon. Saigon was the capital of South Vietnam. The french were stopped by a rebellion by the people of Vietnam. Then in 1862 Vietnam signed a peace treaty with France, and sadly the land that was conquered belonged to France for their over seas trading. Five years later the French ruled many more territories in the south. Then by 16 years later the French ruled the whole country of Vietnam. After the French governor arrived in Vietnam the French took all the power from the Vietnamese and ruled Vietnam completely.
