*Stratified Squamous
* Stratum Corneum
* Stratum Germinativum
Stratum Corneum: the OUTER MOST layer
*the "horny" layer
--named "horny" because this tissue is toughened like an animals horns
-- Corneum, is Latin for "horned"
-- almost entirely dead cells
* a type of protein in hair,nails, and skin
* the materials used to make to OUTSIDE of the skin
* the structure component of the skin
Keratinization Process, (skin renewal process):
1. Stratum Germinativum
2. Keratinocytes move to the next epidermis layer : Stratum Spinosm (cells are dense)
3. Then the cells go to the Stratum Granulosm, pick up granules(contain lipids), lipids make water barriers
4. The cells are now flattened, the nucleus disappears, the result is keratin
5. The next layer is Stratum Lucidum, ready to move to the final layers
6. The enzyme changes and causes the cell to die
7.Then there is the Stratum Corneum, the platform of dead cells
8. Directly, underneath that is living cells that is pushed upward to be placed in the corneum
* this process takes.. 28 days
Provides:
* strength from outside forces
* protection from dehydration
* protection from abrasion
* protects the living cell that are in the core of the skin
-- it is the outer protective layer to block bacteria from the skin
I choose to help those children, young adults, and elders of the future. The up coming society should not have to suffer. I wish to change the current statistic's of youth depressions and promote healthy skin. If we start now, healthy skin and glowing faces will be in the "NEW". The need to slow down the aging process, is the need to learn facts and details of the skin. The surface of the human face is essential in a happy life for everyone.
* the body's major barrier against the environment
* Holding the skin cells together
* puts up a wall against water loss
* a skin protection blanket
How does Keratin protect the skin?
-- it is the skins secrete sebum and sweat
-- helps fight against irritability
