Who? What? Where? When? Why?

Event 3- Chapter 3

Event 5- Chapter 5

Earlier in the book one of the 'littluns' pointed out they had seen a 'beastie' but most of them were scared so decided not to speak of it again. But now, later on in time the boys go on a hunt for this 'beastie' to show that it is not real although they are not to sure themselves.

Later in the book these fears become more apparent.

After a couple of weeks on the island now the boys are starting to get restless and dirty and so conflict is arising between Jack and Ralph.

Ralph is putting up shelters but needs help from Jack but he is out hunting has not yer hunted.

Quote:

Jack: 'We want meat-'

Ralph: 'And we don't get it'

Now the antagonism was audible

This highlights the sound made by the two 'children.' They are taking on adult roles and more and aren't coping.

Event 4- Chapter 4

This moment is one which is very important to Jack. Finally, he caught the pig after weeks of hunting. But the hunt goes to the boys heads and they almost abuse the dead pig. The chapter ends with the 'bigguns' ,as they are called, doing a tribal dance giving the impression these boys are turning in to the savages they were inevitably going to become.

The tribal motto- 'Kill the pig. Cut her throat. Bash her in'

This is very different to how the boys were when they arrived on the island.

Event 10- Chapter 12

In the last chapter the climax rises to a whole new level. Ralph is on the run for his lift as he hides from the other. He wonders whether he should join the tribe but has to run before he can think. As he run on to the beach a naval officer is standing their. The reader presumes it is Ralph's dad. But the novel is left with a subtle cliff hanger. Is only Ralph going to be saved? Or are they all?

Quote: 'A naval officer stood on the sand, looking down at Ralph in wary astonishment.'

Event 7- Chapter 8

At this moment in time conflicts have got better of the boys and all hope is lost of being found and now their thoughts are on competition. Competition of the tribes. After a while Ralph and Jack become to far gone to stop fighting so Jack started his own tribe which initially no-one wanted to join but one by one the 'bigguns' went over to Castle Rock.

Meanwhile Simon has set himself apart from the group and has been acting mysteriously. He feels he is the Lord of the Flies and immediately faints.

Event 8- Chapter 9+10

After Simon has awoken he finds the dead parachutist and realises what it is so feels the need to go tell the others.

After Ralph and Piggy confront Jack and his new tribe Simon is killed by the boys leaving both Ralph and Piggy in shock but the rest could not care. This highlights how the boys have now completely come their savage self and they have now way of going back to who they used to be. No way. Simon's death leads to a massive change in the environment and weather showing his power in the book and one the island.

Quote: ' At once the crowd surged after it, poured down on the rock, lept on the beast, screamed, struck, bit , tore.'

Event 1- Chapter 1

Event 6- Chapter 6

A dead parachutist arrives on the island and gets trapped in the tree's. This along with the wind on the island pushing the dead body makes it look alive.

When Sam 'n' Eric wake u after looking after the fire they see the figure and ran for theirs lives in thought that the figure was the beast. Once they have run they find the other and tell them all about it.

This happens all around the time some of the other boys go and investigate the island and find a new part of the island which they seem to prefer.

Quote: 'The figure fell and crumpled among the blue flowers of the mountain side, but now there was a gentle breeze at this height too and the parachute flopped and banged and pulled'

The boys arrive on the island. Ralph and Piggy are introduced and soon Piggy finds the conch. When Ralph blows it many boys come to them, young and old. (6 to 12 years old.) Everyone meets Jack the dictator but Ralph is appointed chief.

Event 2-Chapter 2

The beautiful yet mysterious island.

What was to happen?

After the reality sinks in and Ralph has taken over Ralph gets thinking. He decides to have a fire on the island to attract attention not knowing what conflict this would cause.

Soon enough most of the forest catches sets alight in an uncontrollable fire which links with the chapter title 'Fire on the Mountain'

"The flames, as though they were a kind of wildlife, crept as a jaguar creeps on its belly towards a line of birth-like saplings that fledged an outcrop of the pink rock"- Very strong simile highlighting the severity of the fire and how it links to the wildlife.

Event 9- Chapter 11

Roger now seems to be taking a stronger role in the tribe, so much so that Jack authority is questioned both by the boys and the reader. Also, once again Ralph confronts Jack and this time Piggy is killed by a massive rock which was released by the evil Roger. The boulder stuck Piggy and though him off the rocks leaving him like a load of squashed bones and fat. At this point Ralph manages to run away and is now on his own.

Quote: 'The rock stuck Piggy a glancing blow from chin to knee; the conch exploded into a thousand white fragments and ceased to exist. Piggy, saying nothing, with no time to even grunt, traveled through the air sideways from the rock.'
