Headline 3

Naomi Segal was the daughter of a Montreal textile merchant and was born on September 22,1945,and was raised in comfortable Outremont. Even as a young girl she was obsessed with the idea of helping the sick and the deprived. At the age of 12 she was a volunteer at Montreal’s Jewish General Hospital in Montreal. In 1962 she married another youthful idealist, Herbert Bronstein, a sales manager. By the time they volunteered with a Canadian relief mission to Cambodia in 1969 they already had three children of their own. She was appalled at the horror of the civil war in Cambodia and its effect on the civilian population. This caused Bronstein to open an orphanage in Phnom Penh which was known as "Canada's House".
