African Americans are still being judged based on the color of their skin.
"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."
We have made some progress towards the dreams of Martin Luther King because racism is still alive and well today. I believe that change is possible, but will not happen all at once. Everyone bleeds the same color, one race should not be treated with a higher priority than the other.
"I have a dream that one day, down in Alabama, with its vicious racists, with its governor having his lips dripping with the words of interposition and nullification; one day right there in Alabama, little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers."
"With this faith we will be able to work together, to pray together, to struggle together, to go to jail together, to stand up for freedom together, knowing that we will be free one day"
"I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal."
"I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood."
People that believe that segregation should be eliminated, surely do stand together and fight.
Example: The Baltimore riots. The Baltimore riots are not the best example of people standing together fighting for something they believe is right, but it is an example of how far they will go to prove that they really do care for their fellow brothers and sisters being treated poorly because of their skin color.
But then there is this...
Dr. Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech made an impact on the world. Whether it be negative or positive, everyone's view of his speech is different.
We have attempted to end segregation, but it always seems to be brought back up to the surface. Yes, we have won many racial conflicted situations, but no one seems to realize that change cannot happen unless that person agrees to change. In some situations, one may be easily influenced or changed by the opposite person's words, in other situations, the person sticks to their beliefs. We the people can do all we can to try to change society's view on African Americans, unfortunately, we wont always be able to. Martin Luther King promised hope to African American people that there would be a change, we are slowly but surely creating it.
Police brutality against African Americans is still happening.
"I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice."
Justice and freedom for African Americans is hard to find, in Mississippi and handfuls of other places.
