FASHION… AND FOOD
So, talking about the present, is a fashion to be like a skinny girl? Or, is a fashion to be like catwalk models? Because now, all the girls follow this stereotype of body. And why is this happening? From our point of view, this is happening because is the new fashion. We see it on the television, on the Internet, in magazines… Girls suffer because they want to have the ‘’perfect body’’ that models have. Girls see skinny girls in magazines, they never see a fat girl, or an ugly girl. So, they start to think that’s beauty, and that’s the perfect body, or that’s the perfect face. Is it true? Of course not. In our opinion, it doesn't matter what type of body has a person, because you will always find a person who will accept you and love you for a reason, and who will see these beautiful parts of you, or see beyond you and see your personality. There will always be someone who likes you for a simply reason, and even yourself don't like you for something, someone will appreciate that as a good thing. So, from my point of view, is really bad that nowadays in our society a lot of people prefer a size than the personality of a person. We think we all should care less how someone physically is, and we should start valuing and loving people for what they really are.
What says Wikipedia: Fashion is a popular style or practice, especially in clothing, footwear, accessories, makeup, body piercing, or furniture. Fashion is a distinctive and often habitual trend in the style in which a person dresses. It is the prevailing styles in behavior and the newest creations of textile designers. Because the more technical term costume is regularly linked to the term "fashion", the use of the former has been relegated to special senses like fancy dress or masquerade wear, while "fashion" generally means clothing, including the study of it. Although aspects of fashion can be feminine or masculine, some trends are androgynous.
And now, in our opinion, fashion is not only about the clothes or the things that we see in the catwalk. Fashion is also the things that we follow because we see them in the rest of the people, on the television and in books. Fashion are the things that we see in magazines and the things that everybody is talking about, no matter if they’re clothes or not. Fashion is also the things we follow.
We called it: ‘’to be in fashion’’ or ‘’be fashionable’’. When we say that something is in fashion, we are saying that this thing is now popular for a lot of people, so, let’s see what is the ‘new fashion’.
Now we are going to see different pictures of famous models. Maybe, we all have the same question: Why they all are so skinny and tall? This is the answer.
In the 80s, the models had a measure of 90-60-90. An example: Naomi Campbell. She was one of the first models that were called ''supermodels''. But later, this changed. In the 90s, Alexander McQueen and Marc Jacobs began showing their collections of clothes with a size of 0. An example: Kate Moss. In fact, they released a new style called ''heroin chic'' in which the models came out with an aspect very different and torn, they were so skinny. This style launched, had a great impact and top models were displaced by these super-skinny models. All women began copying their look, and with this, began the anorexia.
Since then, many designers preferred to use models with this stereotype of body, although there are many of them that are against anorexia. ''If girls are so tall and skinny is better for us because we appreciate the garment in a better way, for this is that the sketches of the designs are high figures and skinny girls, to appreciate the design'' said one of the designers. Of course, everyone draws in a different way, and also present their collections in a different way.
Designers continue to prefer very young models without curves.
This problem of ‘’skinny girls’’ is not only something bad for girls like me. It is also bad for the girls that are models or want to be one of them. The majority of them are rejected because they don’t have the ‘’perfect measures’’.
Here we have some examples of models that are following this stereotype of body.
1. The model Bette Franke boasts bony shoulders.
2. The celebrities, who are also models of beauty to the world, also experience this fixation with thinness.
3. Kelly Osbourne , always proud of her curves, one day decided to do a diet to became in a very thin person.
4. Jennifer Hudson was happy with their extra kilos, but in recent years has lost more than 20 and now has a mini figure.
5. Miley Cyrus has gained a mini waist in just over a year based on strict personal training.
Why the desire to be so thin if not its our normal constitution?
The canons of beauty were the primary culprits in some of the diseases we call eating disorders. The girls watched television and the first thing they saw were pictures of skinny models. The girls read magazines and the first thing they saw were pictures of tall and skinny models, and thus equal to the Internet or any other. This is a big trauma for many girls my age today, they might think that not being like one of those models is a big problem, and they may think they can never get anything or they can never be with a boy. What can we say about those whose dream is to be a model and see that they are below of the size or height? It's a complete disappointment for them. And after this, what is going? After this, the girls begin to obsess with their body, they think they are ugly, fat and want to lose weight, either way. Some of these girls don't eat anything for a day, which is clearly very bad. This brings us to the next step, eating disorders.
ANOREXIA:
People that suffer anorexia are very afraid of gaining weight and has a completely different image and a distorted picture of the size and shape of their body. That’s why you can not maintain a normal body weight, because you always see your body in a different image than it really is. Anorexics people restrict their food intake by dieting, fasting or excessive exercise. They eat just a little and the little they eat becomes an obsession for them.
Although anorexia is similar to bulimia, anorexics are usually very thin and underweight people.
BULIMIA:
Bulimia is similar to anorexia because the person have binge eating and then tries to compensate it with drastic measures, such as forced vomiting or excessive exercise. These measures can be dangerous because vomiting so many times can hurt your trachea and your stomach in general.
People with bulimia eat large amounts of food (often junk food) suddenly and usually do it secretly. The person often fell unable to stop eating and only manages to stop when it is too full to continue eating. Then, these people forced his throat and vomit for no gain more weight.
People that suffer bulimia may be in a normal weight or maybe slightly exceeded by weight.
VIGOREXIA:
Another eating disorder that is not as popular as Bulimia and Anorexia but is also very important is the Vigorexia. The vigorexia is a mental disorder in which the person becomes obsessed with his fitness to extreme levels. They often have a distorted view of themselves: they think they are weak and enquencles. The disorder of vigorexia is characterized by extreme physical activity, they forget to do another important things of their life. They only spend their time doing sport. Fortunately, only four out of ten thousand people have vigorexia.
The reality is that extreme thinness remains the canon on the runways.
The shadow of anorexia plan again on the catwalks. The canons of beauty imposed by fashion are responsible of a lot of eating disorders.
So, we have seen that the food and the fashion not only affect teenagers and make them into traumas or eating disorders. This is also a problem for models and celebrities. Everyone cares now for their weight and size. We think that now it is a problem that introduce a lot of people and situations, and even though one size does not define us, if someone wants to lose weight because you do not feel okay with your body, is not a bad thing, but diets should be made with an order and measurement, imposed by a doctor or by someone professional, and we should not get extremely thin or have a disease or a eating disorder, or to do it for the rest of society and what others think.
Sometimes we do not realize the problems around us, and for most teenage girls the quantity of food they eat is a big problem because of the size, and weight. As we have seen, the television and the Internet are the ones to blame for this, but this is something that will not stop, so finally and from our point of view, we think that we should feel good about who we are and not let things drag us.
WHAT FASHION CAN DO
Social
WHAT ARE THE EATING DISORDERS? Eating disorders involve more than simply dieting to lose weight or try exercising every day. It is about extreme eating behaviors: for example, diets that never end and gradually become more stringent.
WHAT ARE THE TWO MOST COMMON TYPES OF EATING DISORDERS? They are anorexia and bulimia, but today, they are detecting other types or eating disorders not used to be so common, such as binge eating, or disorders related to body image.
WHY DID EATING DISORDERS ARISE? Eating disorders arose because a lot of reasons. One of them is that we are now surrounded by images of very thin famous people who usually weighs much less than healthy weight they should have, and it is a very bad thing. Also, when the pressure is combined for physical changes of puberty, it is not difficult to understand why some teens have a negative image of their body.
But having a eating disorder is not only the problem, many people who have these diseases can also submit a depression and anxiety, or suffer other health problems, such as obsessive-compulsive disorder.
OUR OPINION
First, we are going to talk about: FASHION
Fashion and models
Now talking about food, we all know what food is. But we think we all don’t know what fashion is, or what fashion can do. As we said, fashion is also the things that now, all people is wearing or doing because other people do these things.
