Shoko Asahara, was the leader and declared himself to be all knowing of future events of a World War III that would antagonize America.

Because of the fact that it was originally a high end meditation club, many of its members were upper class with lots of money; therefore, most people considered it a privilege to be part of it and it was only until after 1991 when a person was murdered for trying to leave the cult that the police began asking questions

After the sarin gas attacks the cult lost many of its followers. The attack was suposed to be used to distract people from the cult after the murder of a member who tried to leave in 1991. This backfired big time and the key leaders of the cult were forced to flee from the law. Despite this, the members of Aum Shinrikyo still kept up the cult and regrouped under Shoko's teenage sons. Many members have made a group effort to change the cult into more of a religion and has been very successful despite prejudice. By February 2000, it became more of religion than a cult, that mixed Christen and Buddhist beliefs

This video shows how a popular game used this cult as a model for its vilians

Recruitment and Boundaries

Beliefs

Popular Anime and Manga were used as the backbone of their faith and was seen to have paralleled real life. When running for the General Election they preached ideas of joy and happyism to make the cult more attractive to new members. One of their main beliefs was that the Americans would start a World War III and cause Armageddon. This may have been used to influence members to release the Sarin.

Actions of the Group

Leader

Aum Shinrikyo/Aleph was a cult started in Japan as a meditation group. It became a cult in 1989 as it grew very rapidly in its numbers. In 1990, the group became a party for the General Election and used their beliefs to attract more members. By this time the cult began producing chemical weapons to prepare for a world war three and changed their name to Aleph. As a result, in 1995 sarin gas was released on five different trains across Japan and the group was labeled as terroists
